EloD, PadelHero's doubles rating method, uses individual match analysis to recognize performances that the final score cannot explain.
You partner with someone less experienced. You defend, create chances, and play better than usual. Your pair still loses.
The result belongs on your record. Your rating also needs to account for how you played.
EloD combines match results, partner history, and individual match analysis. It can recognize a strong performance in a defeat, or give two winning partners different rating changes.
1. The score: how did your pair perform?
EloD considers the result, the games won, and the strength of the opposition.
It also connects your history across partners. Winning repeatedly with one person establishes a strong pair. Playing with different people helps reveal each player's strength.
Two players can finish with the same score after very different performances. The score alone cannot explain how much each partner contributed.
2. The rallies: what did you contribute?
Point-by-point match analysis records individual actions, including winners, errors, and assists. EloD uses those actions to compare the partners' contributions.
Your starting level matters. A stronger player is expected to contribute more than a less experienced partner. EloD assesses your contribution against that expectation.
EloD can recognize a strong performance even when your pair loses. Playing above your level can count in a challenging partnership.
3. The hits: how much of the play came through you?
Opponents often direct more play toward one partner. Error counts mean more when you know how often each player touched the ball.
With complete hit data from PadelHero's deep match analysis, EloD measures contribution relative to each player's number of contacts.
Ten errors across 200 contacts and ten errors across 50 contacts describe different rates of error. Hit counts give EloD that context when comparing the partners' contributions.
Three matches, different individual performances
A strong performance in a losing pair
In a heavy defeat, one partner recorded nine winners and ten unforced errors. The other recorded two winners and 29 unforced errors.
Player A's performance earned a higher Level despite the defeat. Player B's Level fell further once individual performance was included.
Different contributions in a winning pair
In another match, Player A recorded 15 winners and 23 unforced errors. Player B recorded five winners and 22 unforced errors.
Player B started with the higher rating, so EloD expected more from them. Player A produced more winners with a similar error count and received the stronger update. Player B's rating fell despite the win.
Higher ratings bring higher expectations
A third match had complete hit data. Within the winning pair, Player A recorded 22 winners and 14 unforced errors. Player B recorded four winners and 36 unforced errors.

Both partners had the same number of recorded contacts. Player A started more than two Levels higher, so a much larger contribution was already expected.
That performance added a small amount to Player A's gain. Player B still gained from the win, though individual contribution reduced the increase.
EloD uses the existing rating gap and recorded involvement to interpret the difference in performance. Winner and error counts alone do not determine the update.
Tested against real match histories
We tested EloD across more than 7,500 matches. It predicted results more accurately than PadelHero's existing rating and agreed more closely with league assessments of player ability.
We also checked whether individual match analysis helped predict what happened later. It did, including in later matches with no analysis of their own. What EloD learns about your play can carry forward when only a score is available.
A strong performance can count beyond the match in which it happened.
